We already found sponsors for several machines. We are currently waiting for
the servers to arrive and will move the services over to the machines. So
stay tuned for speed!
A big thank you to all the people/companies which offered a machine!
We currently host the complete OpenGroupware.org site on a single machine which runs about ten virtual GNU/Linux servers. This includes the following services:
Ideally each of those services would run on an own server, but we see some immediate need for about four servers: build, CVS, documentation and mail.
What kind of servers are required? We don't need the fastest machines
available, something like a GHz CPU, 256 MB of RAM and some 40GB harddrive
- you can hardly buy anything at a shop which doesn't comply with these
specs (Note: of course the faster, the better - as always! :-).
The only major requirement is that the server is in a rack case, so that it
can be installed at the facility of our hoster,
MDlink.
We also do not require that you transfer the ownership of the hardware to
OGo - it is absolutely sufficient if you can lend the hardware for some fixed
time (at least six months would be good).
First of all, we offer an excellent Groupware application server
for free! To get software like OGo the commercial way you would usually have
to pay something between EUR 1,000 and EUR 50,000 to a commercial vendor -
so you might have some spare EUR 1,000 to buy some hardware for OGo ;-)
By sponsoring the project you can ensure that the project has
a bright future and continues to run at the best possible quality.
In addition, we offer you an entry in the hardware section of our main Sponsors! page for the duration of your hardware sponsoring. This can include a small text about your company and of course your company logo together with the link. This should be pretty interesting from an advertising point of view - a single EUR 1,000-2,000 investment and you are listed on a website which will have at least something like a million hits per month (we had about 9 million hits in the first four weeks!).
How to apply ...If you are interested in sponsoring hardware for OpenGroupware.org, please write mail to contribute@opengroupware.org, we'll get back to you ASAP!
